The Top 10 Healthy Kids’ Trends of 2026, According to the Experts

Publish Date: July 29, 2026

Last Update: July 29, 2026

Big changes are happening in the kids’ aisle: while puffs, fruit snacks, and pouches are just as popular, parents are getting more serious about reading ingredient labels, kids are starting to eat more adventurously, and real, whole foods are the focus more than ever before.

At Thrive Market, our Merchandising and Owned Brand teams are experts in the latest healthy kids’ trends. They’re often the first to hear about new snacks and the latest innovations in kids’ supplements, and they’re constantly on the lookout for the best of the best ingredients when sourcing and developing the products we carry for your kiddos. We recently sat down with three experts from our Thrive Market team—Alex Gusmer, Brand Manager for Owned Brands, Becca Molloy, Owned Brands Principal, and Brooke Butler, Associate Director of Core Pantry—to learn more about what’s on the horizon for kids’ trends in 2026.

Trend #1: Protein is Everywhere—Even For Little Ones

Protein is having a moment in the food and wellness world, but it’s also muscling its way into the kids’ aisle. Our experts saw protein showing up in everything from yogurt pouches to snack bars as parents look for options that keep kids fuller longer. “It used to be a sports nutrition conversation, and now it’s a lunchbox conversation,” Butler says.

When it comes to pantry trends, she’s noticed that parents are prioritizing protein over other ingredients—especially those sweeteners and additives that are often far too common in the kids’ snack world. “Parents want products that offer satiety until the next meal, and they’re becoming increasingly discerning when it comes to avoiding those sugar spikes and crashes in their kids.”

Trend #2: Fiber (a.k.a. The Next Protein)

Our experts are predicting that fiber is shaping up to be the next protein—the nutrient parents increasingly search for, with brands boosting it in snacks, bars, and pouches. “The combination of protein and fiber together—satiety and digestion—has become important,” Molloy says.

Fiber-rich foods take longer to digest, which helps kiddos to stay fuller for longer and helps to increase regularity. With these health benefits in mind, parents are now seeking fiber out when shopping for kids’ snacks and foods. “Searches for fiber are skyrocketing on our site,” Butler says. Fiber is found naturally in things like fruits, oats, beans, and psyllium, and brands have found clever ways to incorporate these ingredients into tasty, fun-to-eat snacks that kids love to find in their lunchboxes.

Trend #3: Simple Foods & Short Ingredient Lists

It’s not so much a trend as a return to basics: Instead of searching for snacks with tons of added nutrients and flavors, parents have been searching for simpler, more natural foods for their kids. “In a member survey last summer, ‘simple ingredients’ was the top most important claim parents shop for—above organic, above everything else,” Gusmer says.

Few things at Thrive Market better exemplify this trend than Thrive Market Goods products. Our Owned Brand team prioritizes simple ingredients across all kids’ snacks and foods, consistently asking how we can make things simpler and more wholesome, but just as delicious. “Limiting ingredients can actually taste amazing too,” says Gusmer. “You don’t need the added sugars and oils to make food taste good.”

Trend #4: Nostalgia for Parents, Novelty for Kids

When shopping for their own kids’ snacks, it makes sense that parents would feel some nostalgia for the things they also remember eating as children. Things like toaster pastries, microwavable pizza bagels, macaroni and cheese, and breakfast cereals in boxes covered with colorful games and activities—they’re nostalgic, sure, but healthy

Maybe not 30 years ago, but today, our experts say a shift is underway. “Kids’ favorites will never go away, but now parents expect upgraded versions,” Butler says.

Based on this unique combination of nostalgia and discernment, kids’ food brands are tapping into the novelty, but replacing the additives, sugar, and artificial colors with wholesome, better-for-you ingredients that actually contribute to kids’ daily nutrition goals. “Whether it’s mac and cheese with protein, cereal with less sugar, or waffles with veggies baked in—they make parents feel better than the things they ate growing up,” Molloy says.

Trend #5: Fun & Playful Packaging

Packaging is becoming part of playtime, with kids’ brands turning boxes and wrappers into games, puzzles, and cut-out activities that give kids something to do once the snack is gone. “Incorporating moments that matter or teachable moments on-pack is no longer a nice-to-have—it’s table stakes, especially in the kids’ category,” Butler says. Gusmer gives one fun example: a print-out coloring page inside the box of Thrive Market’s wellmade Kids’ Propolis Spray, which encourages kids to get creative.

Trend #6: Encouraging Adventurous Eaters

Kids’ foods used to be plain, bland, and beige (think: chicken tenders, French fries, and buttered noodles), but no more! Our experts are noticing a shift toward global flavors, even in the kids’ space. “There’s way more development and thoughtfulness into developing global palates early,” Butler says. To discourage picky eating and expand little palates, parents are looking toward kid- and baby-friendly curries, stir-fries, tagines, and kebabs, as well as spices and sauces like cardamom, ginger, and even chimichurri. “My kids eat seaweed snacks now!” Molloy says. “They see other kids eating them at school and want them.”

Trend #7: Dunkability

Dips and sauces turn snacking into an interactive activity that gets kids excited about everything from fruits to veggies to whole grain crackers. While previous generations of kids were limited to ketchup and the occasional ranch dressing, our experts are seeing a much wider assortment of dips for kids (and more wholesome versions of the old standbys).

Trend #8: Fresh(er) Frozen Foods

Heating up a tray of frozen food used to be seen as an easy, if unhealthy dinner shortcut. Today’s frozen foods, on the other hand, are becoming fresher, healthier, and more sustainable than ever before—and our experts predict that they’re only going to get better.

“Freezing is becoming an intentional supply chain choice for a lot of brands to deliver a superior product,” Butler says. Many frozen meals are now made with better-for-you ingredients, and because freezing allows food to stay fresh for longer, they’re also made with fewer additives than in years past.

Frozen produce also makes a reliable, wallet-friendly way to get fruits and veggies on the table no matter the season, where you live, or what your budget may be. “Frozen can actually be the fresher option, since some brands flash-freeze right after harvest,” Butler adds. Easy, affordable dinnertime wins that are healthy for your family? That’s a trend we can get behind.

Trend #9: Portable, Snackable… and Still Wholesome

In the same vein as frozen foods, our experts are seeing major updates to the world of kids’ snack foods—namely, that they’re becoming a whole lot healthier. Handhelds, pouches, and bite-sized, self-feedable formats are in major demand, but parents are scanning the labels to make sure they fit into their larger nutrition goals. “Parents have shifted from the multipack to the on-the-go snack pack to keep up with them as they travel,” Butler says. At Thrive Market, snack packs are a top seller in the kids’ category (but don’t worry—they still fit into our industry-leading quality standards).

Trend #10: Fun (& Functional) Beverages

Thanks to TikTok trends and IRL cafe culture, older kids and teens are loving beverages with all the bells and whistles—and occasionally even functional benefits. “As our options expand with what we’re drinking as adults, so do our kids’,” Molloy says. “They want to have something besides just water to hydrate them.” For younger kids, electrolyte packets and even sparkling waters are popular; for teens, elaborate, Instagram-worthy smoothies, probiotic sodas, and even better-for-you energy drinks are booming. “There’s a meme out there that’s like, Should I tell my kids I never even owned a water bottle?” Molloy laughs. “I think we just drank out of the water fountain!”
