Whether you’re shopping for pantry essentials or simply craving a rich, chocolate treat to satisfy your sweet tooth, Alter Eco has you covered. In fact, many of us can’t stop craving their burnt caramel chocolate bar (more on that below). But what’s even more exciting about Alter Eco is that the brand isn’t just on a mission to make crave-worthy snacks or organic quinoa. Instead Alter Eco is working to completely rethink the way we produce food on a global scale. From partnering with small-scale farmers under fair trade standards to considering the environmental impact of all product manufacturing practices, Alter Eco is shaking things up without sacrificing quality. Get to know this trailblazing brand.

The History of Alter Eco

Alter Eco was founded by Mathieu Senard and Edouard Rollet over 15 years ago. While both are French citizens, they opted to open their business in San Francisco with the vision of becoming pioneers in social entrepreneurialism within the food industry. Through the production of sustainably and ethically sourced food, the duo hopes to contribute to humanitarian aid efforts and fight for economic and social justice.

Alter Eco Company Mission

Alter Eco is on a mission to create a full-circle, sustainable approach to eating, farming, and doing business while inspiring others to do the same. By partnering and developing ethical relationships with small-scale farmers and integrating sustainable production practices at every point in their supply chain, the brand hopes to aid in a global food transformation.

Benefits of Alter Eco

Alter Eco is a brand that prides itself on sustainable and ethical production methods. This mindful approach to business includes everything from compostable packaging to working with the brand’s cacao partners to replant rain forests where the brand’s beans are sourced. Alter Eco also works to help small-scale farmers (including their quinoa, sugar, and chocolate producers) to institute fair trade and organic practices wherever possible. These ethical standards improve both the quality of the food produced and the quality of life within these local communities. In addition, Alter Eco is a GHG Protocol 3 Carbon Zero business, which means the company offsets more carbon than it emits.
