When it comes to plant-based meat, Beyond Meat® is an industry leader known for developing recipes with the same texture and taste as animal-based products with non-GMO and non-bioengineered ingredients. With a base of peas and brown rice, their products deliver ample protein alongside crave-worthy flavor.

The History of Beyond Meat®

Taking action on urgent issues like climate change and animal welfare, Ethan Brown founded Beyond Meat® in 2009. Speaking with Bristol Farms, Brown shares that the realization of how one small change—like shifting to plant-based meat—became the catalyst for starting the brand. From the beginning, he’s remained committed to using simple ingredients and never cutting corners, saying “we believe that just because you can add something, doesn’t mean you should.” While they offer a range of products like sausages and chicken tenders, their most popular product remains the Beyond Burger, a plant-based burger Brown says is “designed to deliver the delicious taste and texture of a beef burger, but comes with the added benefits of plant-based meat: more protein and iron than 80/20 beef, but with 35% less saturated fat and no cholesterol.”

Beyond Meat® Company Mission

Since factory-farmed beef is a big contributor to climate change and has the largest carbon footprint of all animal proteins (with cattle accounting for 65% of the livestock sector’s emissions), Beyond Meat® is on a mission to reduce this environmental footprint. To do this, the brand addresses four key global issues—human health, climate change, constraints on natural resources, and animal welfare—through shifting the protein at the center of consumers’ plates to plant-based meat.

Benefits of Beyond Meat®

Beyond Meat® products are Non-GMO Project Verified and made with a premium protein blend featuring peas and brown rice. The brand’s simple process of heating, cooling, and pressure gives their plant-based burgers, meatballs, sausages, and ground “crumbles” a texture that’ll make you do a double take. In addition to tasty flavor, here are a few more benefits of enjoying Beyond Meat® in your weekly rotation.

Proteins like peas and brown rice are combined with plant-based fats (including cocoa butter, coconut oil, and expeller-pressed canola oil) for the ultimate in flavor and nutrition
Beet juice extract and apple extract mimic the taste and color of real meat
Products contain zero cholesterol, and are free from the antibiotics and hormones often used to treat factory-farmed beef and other livestock
