Even if you don’t have a food allergy yourself, you’ve probably been in situations where you needed to consider it. Maybe it was a dinner party where guests requested a certain ingredient be left off the menu, or your child’s school notified parents the classroom is a peanut-free zone. It seems commonplace now, but decades ago, food allergy awareness was definitely not the norm. For those with even graver concerns, such as managing celiac disease, the community of resources was even smaller and options for inventive recipes were limited. In today’s food climate, companies like Schär are making it easier for anyone with dietary restrictions to still enjoy some of their favorite foods—like bread. Read on to find out why this is one of our most beloved gluten-free brands.

The History of Schär

The parents of Ulrich Ladurner ran the “A. Ladurner Chemist” company in Northern Italy. After completing college and working as a chemist in Austria and Germany in the 1960s, Ladurner returned home, and at the age of 23, became the company’s new manager. Under his leadership, the business began selling gluten-free food made by a nearby doctor, Dr. Anton Schär. In 1979, Ladurner took over the Schär brand himself and continued to help the organization specialize in gluten-free foods that were safe for those with celiac disease.

Schär Company Mission

From its start in the 1920s, Schär has always been focused on providing food for those living with dietary restrictions. Establishing an in-house product development team has been integral to Schär’s continued success. Working closely with nutritionists, the brand has listened to customer feedback and channeled its unique expertise in gluten-free ingredients into some of the most beloved GF options on the market.

Benefits of Schär

When it comes to foods safe for those with celiac disease, gluten sensitivities, or allergies, Schär is one of the most renowned brands. To create its signature products, Schär works with an international scientific committee made up of nutritionists, doctors, and gastroenterologists to continue studying celiac disease, ingredients, and raising awareness about their findings in scientific journals, through lectures, and continued education for health professionals.
