Canning and batch cooking may be a popular pastime for home cooks, but what happens when a family operation wants to expand its offerings? They build a new state-of-the-art facility. That’s the story of Sprague foods, an organic food brand that developed a thermal processing system using “Dutch-oven” technology to lock in the nutrition of each ingredient. This unique facility—the first of its kind in North America when it opened in 1996—has the highest standards of quality of efficiency, and it shows in every signature recipe.

The History of Sprague

The Sprague family has been canning organic foods on the north shore of Lake Ontario since 1925. This independent and family-run company, now helmed by fifth-generation owners, remains obsessively focused on quality. The line offers beans, soups, sauces, and even desserts—and everything is organic, vegetarian, and ready-to-eat for added convenience.
